General Manager – Commercial Landscape Construction

The Role
The person who is successful in winning this role will answer directly to the MD, work collaboratively with the Contracts Manager and Senior Horticulturalist, have access to administrative assistance, and take full responsibility for managing the Construction Team, Construction Sites, Clients and Equipment.

The Construction Manager will backup Residential Construction Management, be the 2IC to the MD, and the MD will backup the Commercial Construction Manager.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  1. Management of Landscape Construction Projects to meet Tender specifications, and satisfy Client expectations,
  2. Staff management (Construction) to support growth, productivity and development of personnel,
  3. BDM activities including Estimating, responding to RFTs, and Client liaison to win new projects and ensure Project pipeline growth,
  4. Manage estimating, tenders, and projects to achieve profit,
  5. Take responsibility for communicating with, and reporting to MD; keeping the MD “in the loop”, at all times,
  6. Working with the Contracts Manager to monitor Tender and Contracts Management from RFQ through to practical completion.

The Successful Applicant must demonstrate:

    1. At least Five (5) years’ local experience as a Landscape Construction Manager or similar,
    2. The ability to manage and develop construction labourers to complete quality installations,
    3. Extensive experience with BDM activities including estimating and RFT completion,
    4. High-level competence in reading and interpreting building and construction plans,
    5. Very strong IT skills; CAD, Plan Take-off software, Project Management software, ideally Activ Take-off and BuildLogic, & Microsoft Office competence,
    6. Excellent communication skills; phone, email, person-to-person verbal and written,
    7. A professional appearance appropriate to the job role,
    8. “can-do” attitude, excellent documentation and reporting competencies,
    9. The knowledge and competence to take on Business Development activities.

Licenses and Qualifications:

Ideally the successful applicant will have the following certifications or licenses;

  • Diploma of Project Management or similar,
  • Diploma in Horticultural,
  • Drafting Certifications are advantageous,
  • Manual vehicle license, ideally an MR,
  • White card, Current First Aid Certificate.

Landscape Maintenance Gardener/Labourer-Horticulture

Primary Responsibilities include:

  1. Provision of manual labour to maintain gardens, (not turf), in excellent condition.
  2. Apply horticultural knowledge and experience to achieve garden improvement.
  3. Work as part of a team & independantly.
  4. Be OHS aware.
  5. Demonstrate a “can do” attitude.

The Successful Applicant MUST have:

    1. A Level III Horticultural qualification, or substantial work experience in maintaining domestic gardens,
    2. The physical fitness to productively complete garden labouring for 40 hours a week. Pre-employment medicals will be undertaken.
    3. Current certifications including;

a. WA Construction White/Blue Card,
b. Drivers licence, ideally a MR license,
c. Pesticide licence, is advantageous,
d. Current First Aid certificate, is desirable.
